What is the Affordable Connectivity Program and how does it help individuals in need?

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is a government program designed to ensure low-income households access to the broadband services they need for work, school, healthcare, and more.

Who is eligible to receive a free government phone under this program?

Households that participate in certain assistance programs like SNAP or Medicaid, families with children receiving free and reduced-price school lunches, or households with incomes at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines.

You can get started by providing your zip code and email address in the form above. On the next page, complete the short application to see if you are eligible for a free phone. You may need to provide documentation that verifies your income, such as a tax return or three consecutive pays stubs, or proof of participation in qualifying programs like SNAP, Medicaid, or others.

What services or features are included with the free phone? For instance, do I get a certain amount of minutes, texts, or data each month?

With your free smartphone you get free unlimited minutes, text messages, and data each month. Your free phone service will remain active as long as you use it every month.

If I am already enrolled in other government assistance programs, does that automatically qualify me for a free phone?

Participation in certain government assistance programs like SNAP, Medicaid, or the Federal Public Housing Assistance can qualify you for the ACP. However, you’ll still need to apply and provide documentation of your participation in these programs.

What type of smartphone will I receive? Is it an iPhone or an Android?

The specific brand and model, whether it’s an iPhone or Android, will vary based on availability and requirements. The majority of phones offered in the Affordable Connectivity Program are Android devices. We ensure that all smartphone devices provided are up-to-date and equipped with the necessary features and functionalities you need to stay connected.

How long does the application process take, and how soon can I expect to receive my phone after being approved?

The application only takes a few minutes to complete. Once approved, delivery times can vary, but we aim to get the device to you as quickly as possible, usually within a few days.

Are there any conditions or commitments I need to be aware of once I receive the phone?

You will be required to renew your service each year to continue receiving your ACP benefit. You will be notified when it’s time to recertify your eligibility. If you do not recertify within the 60 day window you will be de-enrolled from the service.
